I really won’t need to run my heating till probably December or so as I like it a bit cooler in the home.

It’s those days when the sun is hidden behind clouds and the temps are close to freezing that the flat gets too cold without any climate control. I have a good pair of wool socks and heated floors so that helps with keeping my feet warm. I also have some warm comfy winter clothes to wear indoors so that I am not always turning on the central heat. I think January and February are the only two months when I need to run the heat almost every day. We get a lot of days where there is no sun and the flat can get very frigid. I have a small radiant heater to keep me warm in my office while I work but sometimes the rest of the flat gets too cold if I don’t turn on the main heating unit. Right now we are in the middle of September and I am still having to run the AC some during the day and at night when I sleep. It will be nice when winter comes because I can open my window in my bedroom at night and feel the same way I do in the summer with the AC blasting. I like it very cold when I sleep and even use a small fan by my bedside in the winter to cool me down more. There is nothing like hiding under a big warm fluffy comforter when it is freezing outside and there is no heat in the house.

I’m hoping to find a flatmate who works away from home so that I have my days to myself when I work from home.

It’s just a matter of time till the right person contacts me and then my bills will be cut in half.

Where I live overseas I can eat each month for about $300 and then add another $200 for misc stuff. I work at the HVAC business about twenty hours a week, which covers all my bills living alone but it is pretty tight. So, if you manage to trim your rent down you can live very cheaply here on the Spanish coast in a small trendy town about 45 mins south of BCN, where the olympics were held not so long ago. I was living there working for a local business but I got tired of the incessant noise from living in a larger city. I think that city has about 2 million people while this town I live in now has about 25K people. There is a local contractor here who I now work for doing HVAC equipment repairs. I do a lot of heat pump repairs in the winter and a lot of air handler repairs in the summer. I also work some in the store doing some cleaning and inventory but I am mainly doing service calls in homes and businesses. Other than that I am pretty much outside on my bike or at the beach playing ball each day. My HVAC tech friend may meet me tonight and play some music with me and some friends. It should be a fun night.

The beaches are thinning out more and more each day as summer loses its grip and fall starts to take over. Two weeks ago the beaches were totally packed with sunbathers and now it is getting very sparse with just a few people sprinkled here and there. I just took a dip in the sea and it is feeling a bit cooler, but nothing compared to how cold it gets in January and February. I think we dip down to about 55F in those cold months and this temp is great for the body. My HVAC specialist buddy got me into these cold dips last year and it has been great for me except for one trip in an ambulance from hypothermia. I now have a space heater warming up my bathroom in the winters so that when I come home I get warm quicker. I take a hot water bath for 20 minutes after the dip to speed up the warming process and then get in some warm dry clothes to begin my workday. I am going to find some more work online so that I don’t need to get a full time roommate. An HVAC tech is coming next month for 12 days and his company is paying me for him to stay so I am covered next month and will work on lining up a temporary guest for November and December while I am away visiting the states. I’m letting my stock money sit in these stocks till they recover so it’s a bit touch-and-go right now but I’ll survive.

It’s amazing the difference ten years makes in one’s life.

Ten years ago I never would have imagined I would be living overseas and not doing stand up comedy anymore. Life sends you in some strange directions and if you are brave enough you just might come out with a better understanding of yourself. I was running my own local contracting business doing HVAC equipment work with my friend when I felt like it was time for a change. I was tired of the ratrace in my town and wanted a change but I just didn’t know what kind of change. My brother was running his own local business on the other side of the world and we decided to meet somewhere halfway in between. This brought me to the city where I now live and got me going in the heating and cooling field in my town. I like working here and am pursuing a career on the side in music. I’ve been playing music on the streets and in bars with my friend and it is going great. I work during the week for the HVAC business and life is much slower here. I don’t even need a car, which is great because it saves me a lot of money on gas and car insurance. And it also saves me on air conditioning repairs for my old car I was driving in the states. That car seemed to be breaking down every week and I was sinking all my money into it. A simpler life is way better than that ratrace.

Those are the three things that 30 years of beach volleyball has taught me.

It also goes well with life too as sports are a good teacher of life lessons.

When my partner and I are saying positive things only when we play we both do better and usually win. It’s when we start criticizing each other’s mistakes that we usually lose the games. It’s also a good idea to let go of mistakes quickly and move on, or they can have an impact on your future play. Staying calm is always a good thing in the middle of a heated match. Portable air conditioners help a lot in tournaments by keeping us cool between matches so that we calm down and reset for the next game. I’ve played so many tournaments over the years and met so many people along the way. I work in the HVAC industry now doing sales and service and teach some volleyball on the side when I can. I still play games now but instead of focusing on winning I am more focused on creating magical plays in the games. The local business near the courts has an audience always there to cheer us on and I am so grateful for that. The people charge us up with their screams and clapping and we try to put on the best show possible for them. They even have air conditioning in the beach bar next to where we play so we usually hit it after the games to hang out and relax with the players.

I didn’t sleep so well last night as I had a lot of emotions and thoughts swirling in my mind. My life is in a state of change right now and it is a bit unsettling for my soul as when I wake in the middle of the night my soul speaks the clearest. I think I have a strong desire to make a change in the world but I am not moving in that direction due to fear or something. Whatever the case may be, I can feel a shift taking place to push me ahead. I love doing HVAC equipment repair jobs as it allows me to help others to live a more comfortable life. I sometimes sing when I am working and have had several people tell me that I should be a singer. It reminds me of the song Mr Tanner by Harry Chapin, check it out if you fancy stories about life. My dad was an HVAC pro and worked in the field for a long time and taught me everything I know about HVAC. I would love to sing in clubs around the country and inspire others in my way. I know I won’t be world famous but that is fine with me, playing in local businesses in my town would be good enough for me. You don’t need to be at the top of your field to enjoy your life and what you are doing. Fame brings with it a whole host of problems that many people don’t see. I’ll just keep on pushing and see what happens.

You only have one day at a time to live so if you can think of it this way maybe it makes the bad times less bad and the good times all the more special.

I’ve had so many fond memories in my life and hope to make many more before my time comes.

I’ve moved overseas and my only regret living here is I don’t get to see my family so much anymore. I may move back there in a year if I don’t find what I am looking for over here. I work for the local business in my town selling smart thermostats and space heaters but I feel there is something more that I can be doing with my life. I’ve tried many passion pursuits but nothing has really stuck with me for long. Maybe working more in the HVAC industry is what I should be doing but I just don’t know if that is what I want to do with the rest of my life. I feel that something in the arts would be better for a carefree soul like me. I have a few local businesses where I could run an open mic so maybe putting shows together is my thing. I don’t know but I would like to do something that leaves some kind of footprint for others to see when I am gone so I feel like my life had some meaning. I’m good at HVAC repairs and such but I think music is where my heart feels the most joy. I’ll find my way and I hope you do too.
