An Unusually Slow Day in the Summer Here

Looks like we have another one of those overcast dark days where it is strangely still.

It’s quieter than normal for some reason, maybe it’s because there is no wind at all to rustle the leaves on the trees. I’m going to stay home and work at a leisurely pace because there isn’t anything going on outside. I may go to my beach spot later around 6pm to get out for a bit, but that gives me over four hours at home, which is fine because I have quite a workload today. My HVAC equipment is getting serviced tomorrow so I need to be home for that too. I think the weather will be better tomorrow so maybe we will do a music jam on the beach tomorrow evening. I just want my heating and AC unit to be tuned up and ready for the cold weather that will come in two months. I plan on going back to the states mid December for a month possibly, at the least I’ll go back for two weeks or so. I will work some for this local contractor back home to help me cover my trip because I am barely scraping by again as I am living alone in this big flat. Soon I’ll get a roommate and it will be easy for me with bills and such. I just need to pick up a bit more work at the HVAC company where I work and I’ll be fine. I need about $1000 for this trip back to the states if I am frugal about the whole journey.

Taking Care of Your Heating and Cooling System

A wifi thermostat can be controlled remotely, so you can adjust the temperature even when you’re not at home.

Today let’s have a little chat about the heating and cooling system in your house. I know this may sound boring to some people but it is a good thing to do so we will give you a bit of info on the subject. Many people don’t give much thought to their heating and cooling system until it breaks down, which usually seems to happen at the worst time of the year when the weather is very cold or very hot. It doesn’t take a lot of work but a little bit of regular care can go a long way toward keeping your HVAC system running smoothly for years to come. Start by making sure that the thermostat is set to the correct temperature and program it to do so if it is a newer model which has that type of function. If you have an old dial thermostat then maybe it is time to think about switching to a newer model as they are much easier to use. A wifi thermostat can be controlled remotely, so you can adjust the temperature even when you’re not at home. In addition, be sure to clean or replace the filter on your furnace or electric heater on a regular basis. A clogged filter can make the system work harder than necessary and shorten its lifespan. Finally, if you have a dial thermostat, give it a gentle cleaning with a soft cloth every few months. By taking these simple steps, you can help to ensure that your heating and cooling system runs efficiently for years to come.

Off to the Local Business for a HEPA Filter

Today is one of those dreary days where you could stay in the flat all day without feeling like you are missing anything outside.

  • It looks like it is going to rain soon so I am going to head out now and buy a HEPA filter for my HVAC system.

I have never had one of those filters in my units before so I am pretty excited to see how well it works at cleaning the air in my flat. I have decent air quality, as measured by my trusty digital ppm meter, but I think there is still too much dust in the air. I have a dust allergy and have been sneezing quite often, so if you put two and two together you get a HEPA filter. My cats are both sleeping now as they just finished running all over the flat so now is a good time to hit the local business for that filter. I am going to reheat dinner for tonight to make it an easy night of cooking so I can spend some more time at the beach before coming home. My HVAC tech friend is supposed to message me later about meeting up to play music in the sand if it doesn’t rain. But if it rains then I may invite him and some other friends to come over for a pasta dinner and a music jam session. I have nothing else going on as the HVAC company where I normally work is closed for the week for some kind of remodeling. See ya later.

Looks Like it is a Book Reading Day at Home

I’m seeing grayer and grayer skies as the day progresses and I wouldn’t doubt to see some rain soon.

The climate is shifting from summer to winter so we are getting less of those blue skies and more unstable weather.

The temps will soon be dropping and I will find myself running my central heating unit again before too long. We usually have a couple months though where the weather is pretty neutral and you don’t need to run the heat or the AC. Those are usually the months of October and November. December can bring temps down below the freezing point as to which heat becomes a necessity more so than a luxury. I’ve had my heater break down before and woke up to my living room at a crisp 55F. It was cold enough in the flat as to where I could see my breath when I came out in the morning. Now I have a small radiant heater as a backup heat source if the main unit ever goes out again. I can’t have it that cold in my flat when I work because my fingers don’t type so well when they are numb. So anyways, it looks like today will be one of those gray cloudy days with rain and it may be a good day to read a book and listen to quiet piano music while watching the rain fall. My climate control system is going to need a good cleaning soon and I may even get it tuned up for the coming winter. Have a good one.

What is HVAC and Why Do We Need It?

Many years ago people lived without any type of climate control, and before the invention of electricity a mere fan was an impossibility. Times have changed a lot, especially over the past 100 years, with some incredible inventions that have changed our lives for the better. One of those inventions being HVAC, which we will talk about briefly for now to enlighten those who know nothing about the field. HVAC systems are a necessary part of any home, providing heating and cooling as well as indoor air quality control. However, with so many different brands on the market, it can be hard to know which one is right for your home. Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing an HVAC brand. Heating: If you live in an area with cold winters, you’ll want to make sure that your HVAC system can provide adequate heating. Look for a brand that offers a variety of heating options, such as furnaces, heat pumps, and boilers. Cooling: In areas with hot summers, cooling is a top priority. Again, look for a brand that offers a variety of cooling options, such as air conditioners and evaporative coolers. Indoor Air Quality: Indoor air quality is important for both your health and comfort. Make sure that the HVAC brand you choose offers products that can help improve indoor air quality, such as air purifiers and humidifiers. By keeping these factors in mind, you can be sure to choose the best HVAC brand for your home. I hope these facts help you in staying comfortable.

Time to Run the Robot for my Floors

I run my robot vacuum cleaner each day to pick up sand and dust that gets brought into the house from unknown sources.

Well, actually the sources are pretty known because it is only I who is coming and going each day from the flat.

My cats both live indoors full time so they aren’t bringing in any dirt. I have a HEPA filter on the robot and it picks up all of the sand and dust that my central HVAC system would normally be grabbing, so I end up not needing to clean the filter in the main unit that often. I looked at the filter the other day, after three months of not checking it, and it was still perfectly clean. I think I could fill up a small waste can in a month with all of the stuff that the robot picks up from the floors. It’s really amazing how much dirt gets into a house that is closed up with a climate control system running each day to keep the air clean. I bet in a year you could fill up a bathtub with all of the things that accumulate in the house over that period. Imagine breathing in all of that stuff if you didn’t have an HVAC system or HEPA filtered robot to keep the house clean. I need to ask Google how all of that debris gets into a house that is totally closed up. Maybe it comes in on my clothes and my body, not to mention my bike. Be kind to yourself today.

Quality AC Service is a Good Thing

Last year our AC unit went out while on vacation and we found that there were no HVAC companies around to help us.

It was a brutally hot week there in the flat without AC and it made us really appreciate having a company near us where we live.

It’s important to have a quality AC service that you can rely on, especially during the warmer months. A good AC unit can keep your home cool and comfortable, while a bad one can leave you sweating and cursing. There are a few things you should look for when choosing an AC service. First, make sure they offer a variety of services, including heating, cooling, and repair. Second, check to see if they have experience with different types of AC units, such as heat pumps and central air units. Finally, ask about their customer service policy – you want to be able to reach them easily if there is a problem. With a little research, you can find the perfect AC service to keep your home cool and comfortable all summer long. The same can be said about winter time too because it is no fun to be freezing in the home when the temps outside are below zero. We had this happen one time while taking a trip up north during winter time. The heat pump broke down and we couldn’t find a company or person to come out and help us as we were in a tiny village of 100 people very far from even the smallest village. Next time we bring a space heater just in case.

Need to Find Some Sage for Breakfast Sausage

That is one thing you can’t find here overseas; good breakfast sausage.

I don’t eat a lot of red meat anymore but I do like a good breakfast sausage with my eggs and potatoes now and then.

I would say a few times a month max I would like to eat sausage, and ideally it would be sausage that is natural without any of the nitrates and nitrites that are so bad for the body. This local business near me sells a vegetarian type sausage but it is so expensive that it makes it difficult to eat it without stressing out a bit. Another thing I like to do is eat a big salad each day to load my body up with nutrients and clean out the system with all of the roughage it contains. My local contractor friend eats way too much red meat each week and always seems to be going to the doctor for something or another. I rarely visit the doctor and usually when I go it is for something like a checkup or blood work to make sure everything is alright with me. The HVAC company is where I work each day and it is located very close to the doctor’s office so sometimes I pop in just to say hi to them. Those people are our lifelines so it is a good idea to have a good relationship with them. A few of my HVAC tech friends are also on the same bandwagon as I am and we all have friends who are doctors or naturopaths. Good people to have in your circles.

My Heating and Air Conditioning System

I wonder where the cheapest city in the world is to live and if it is an enjoyable place to live.

Okay, I just googled it and it is over in Asia in one of the smaller countries.

I can’t name it or my article will pop up over in that country and the people there will be wondering why an air condition company from the states is doing business over there. You can live for about $1000 a month total if renting a studio. I live about the same here in a three bedroom flat, with central heat and air, with one roommate. So I’m not in such a high cost of living town myself either. I think in the states I would pay about three times what I pay here to live. I’ll give you a hint, where I live they call it the Jewel of the Mediterranean. I have a nice flat in the city center, with a good climate control system, less than a quarter mile from the sea. I think if I rode my bike quickly I could be at the coast in about a minute and a half, not bad for $1000 a month! The new contractor in town hired me a few years ago and we work together a few days a week doing air quality system installations and repairs. The air quality in this town is great as far as pollution goes but not so good in the pollen category as we have a lot of oak trees that drop yellow pollen.

Three Months Till Christmas, Wait What?

I can’t believe that I will be going back to the states in three months for the holidays. I feel like I just left there from my summer trip and now I am going to be looking at flights in a month or so to go back again. This time it’ll be touch-and-go with money as all of my capital is locked up in cryptos. I am going to try to get a flatmate to absorb the cost of rent while I’m gone, at least for the month of December, and to watch my two cats. This HVAC worker wants to rent my room so I should be set when it comes time to leave for home. I won’t have a rental car in the states this time as it costs just way too much. I will Uber it around town and ride my bike whenever I can. At least I won’t have to worry about getting a car without air conditioning like last time. Now I’ll just get an Uber when I need it and have family and friends drive me around when possible. I think the last time I rented a car it was nearly $3000 for a two month stint back in the states. I’d have to work for my local contractor friend back home if I rented a car and spend most of my time working to pay for the rental. If I Uber it around then I can probably do a month back home for about $1000, which includes the ice cold air conditioned plane ride over.
