No one will ever teach you when to call for help

My cousin Nash was the overconfident type if you ask me. He was always so sure of himself and we would joke about it at family gatherings. But all this was in a good way. He loved to make everyone feel comfortable, sometimes at his own expense. One time when gathering at Aunt Eleanor’s house for the family get-together, Nash was busy making sure everyone felt at home. I don’t remember a time when he sat down to enjoy like we all did. After running around for at least two hours, he suddenly fainted and no one expected it. Everyone rushed to see what had happened and we called the ambulance to take him to the ER. It turns out that he had worked himself to exhaustion in the heat of summer which was not advisable. The doctor advised him to take a rest and preferably sleep in an airconditioned room. This is when he disclosed that aunt’s AC was not working. All his running around was to ensure no one stayed indoors during the celebration. He had made some calls to the HVAC company that services his mother’s HVAC system but they were three hours away so he was busy ensuring people stayed outdoors until the air conditioner was fixed. While this was a commendable sacrifice on his part, it was not worth risking his life. It would have been a lot easier if he had mentioned the issue since Ian is an HVAC technician and he would have looked into the matter. When we got home, Ian, our other cousin, checked the air conditioner, changed the filter and it was back on. We forced Nash to rest for the remainder of the day as activities resumed.
