Keeping the home warm by cooking in the dining room

I remember going to visit my Grandma particularally around Christmas time! She lived in the home with thin walls and not truly nice insulation.

  • She also lived in quite a frigid temperature, or at least, it was frigid in the winter.

Dad sometimes wondered and distraught about how she was keeping warm on particularally frigid days, but she had ways. She would typically be bundled up in multiple layers when it was cold. She had space heaters and electric blankets and she was truly careful with the space heaters to avoid any electrical or fire hazards. However, one of her number one methods to warm up the home was cooking on the stovetop and baking in the oven. Whenever my pal and I would visit while in Christmas break, my pal and I would often all congregate in the dining room while Grandma and Dad cooked and baked all sorts of lovely things just as much to have nice things to eat as to keep the home nice and warm. Those were some of my fondest childhood memories. On any given visit, Grandma might be cooking chicken and dumplings on the stove while simultaneously baking a watermelon rhubarb pie. Other times in the day she might be cooking a full-on lunch with everything from pancakes to sausage and bacon and eggs and also baking biscuits. It was a lovely way to keep the home warm, and grandma’s home did have a boiler, but she favorite to use it sparingly. I would say that she did a nice task of keeping the home warm and keeping her guests cozy and well fed!
