Fire safety with the electric heat pump

A friend was sharing how they almost had a house fire because of their cooling equipment, which used combustion, and I had a new fear unlocked. They were lucky to have caught it and had a reliable fire extinguisher. They shared too many details about how it came about, but I remember they had the HVAC business in their hometown send a cooling technician team to check on the cooling unit because they were afraid it would burn again. I would have moved from the house immediately. The cooling specialist told them they needed to change their HVAC installation because the damage was extensive. They asked for the safest option to ensure they had adequate help with indoor comfort for all seasons. The HVAC contractor told them to get an electric heat pump with safety guards that ensure it doesn’t start a fire. It was also a more recent cooling technology, so their home was upgraded. The story had only come up when another friend mentioned how hard it was for them to pick equipment for their home project at the cooling corporation. Their local service provider had also told them to buy a heat pump, but there were several options depending on the energy source, which made the decision-making worse. So our “fire friends” shared what they liked about their electricity sourcing one and why they should consider it. In case you are wondering, we live in a rental and do not have the same privilege of changing anything on our central heating. I hope the decision-making will be easier for us when we do get to build.
