Sticking to some easy rules for great HVAC savings
I’m not much of a rule follower and never have been.
But when it comes to saving on HVAC cooling, I’ll follow the rules.
From the time I was a little kid, I’ve always sort of chaffed at being told what to do. That didn’t go over so well with my parents. Bless them because they mush have had a heck of a time dealing with me. My wife fares much better. She’s got a way of sort of keeping me in line without me getting defensive or defiant. That girl is just magic like that. So when we were discussing the upcoming appointment for the air conditioning tune-up, she brought up what we pay for HVAC cooling in the summer. We took a hard look at the bills and it was decided that we could do better than that. But that would mean we had to get a lot more disciplined and apply ourselves to saving money on the air conditioning. We did some research online and actually found all the information we needed from our own HVAC company’s website. After we got the HVAC maintenance to ensure top efficiency, we started with the house. We replaced the sun damaged weather stripping everywhere. I went outside and sealed up any gaps in the exterior. And my wife ordered some solar shades. From there, we figured out how to program the digital thermostat so the setting would be in the mid 80’s during the heat of the day. All of this ended up saving us more than 20 percent over the course of the summer.
