Losing the HVAC system in the middle of the night

Last night, just as I was about to go to bed, I realized that our kitchen was unusually cold… There are more than one air vents within our kitchen, so I listened quietly to hear the heat pour through them.

I waited plus waited, however nothing ever happened.

I stood in front of both air vents and tried to think of the heat coming out, just in case I wasn’t hearing it, then when I still could not think of the heat, I went into our dining room and found the control unit. I raised the temperature by more than one degree plus waited for the furnace to kick on. Again, I waited plus waited however nothing happened. When I returned to the control unit, I noticed that the control component said our home felt like it was 67 even though I’d set it to 70 degrees. This was the moment when I realized that our furnace wasn’t working. I didn’t want to call the emergency line with the local HVAC business because it would cost myself and others almost double… However, I didn’t want to freeze in the middle of the night either. I decided to try to solve the problem myself before calling the HVAC dealer. The first thing I did was check the air filter, and my old air filter didn’t look terrible; however, I replaced it anyway. Next, I went to check if any of the breakers were tripped, but sure enough, something had tripped the breaker plus caused our furnace to stop working. Thankfully, I was able to flip it back plus our furnace began to heat our beach house again.
