Deciding Between Old and New

Before we purchased this house, we were made aware of the old HVAC system.

We loved everything about the house and it’s location so much that we were willing to overlook the HVAC system and its age when signing the contract.

My husband and I have always been really good about taking care of our HVAC systems in the past, so we were committed to getting it cleaned up and taken care of as soon as we moved in. Neither of us expected to replace it right away, but the thought wasn’t far from our minds. As soon as we got the keys to our new house, we called the local HVAC company and hired a professional to come service the HVAC system. We had no idea when it had been serviced last or if it had been serviced at all. The HVAC professional told us what we already knew about how old the HVAC system was and that it wasn’t going to run as efficiently as a new one. Afterwards, my husband and I discussed the positives and negatives of replacing the HVAC system instead of putting time and effort into it. We could clean the ductwork and the HVAC equipment, but that would cost time and money and we’d constantly have to care for it. Or, we could purchase a new HVAC system for thousands of dollars, but we would never need to worry about failures and efficiency. After weighing our options, we decided to purchase a new HVAC system because it would save us money over time rather than caring for the old HVAC system.
