A small act of kindness can lead to outstanding service.

One lesson that I gained from my dad was to be kind to all the people I meet in life. It doesn’t matter who they are, whether they are rich or poor, young or old, treat them all with respect and kindness. My dad instilled in me the importance of performing acts of kindness for others, he constantly said, “any small act of kindness can make a difference in someone’s life”. It could be the one act that transforms someone’s mood for the better. Most acts of kindness require no monetary exchange, but there are certain circumstances when tipping someone for their services could make a huge difference. A few summers ago, the motor on my air conditioner failed and I called an HVAC technician to service the unit. When the technician arrived, we exchanged some friendly conversation and shortly thereafter, before he began working, I offered him a cold drink. He was extremely happy for the drink as the afternoon was boiling hot, so the drink helped to relieve some of the heat. He worked quickly in the heat, and it took him about 2 hours to repair the unit. He was exceptionally diligent in communicating the issue to me and once he was done, I paid him for his service. I had air conditioning and I was truly a satisfied customer. Before he left, I offered him 2 bottles of water which he was extremely grateful for. I also handed him a few dollars as a tip for his service. At first, he hesitated, but after I insisted, he accepted the money. “You’re such a kind person” were his words to me as he accepted the tip. Because of that one encounter, he became my permanent HVAC technician. He goes above and beyond to provide outstanding HVAC service whenever I need it.
