While out of town for the holidays I will turn off my Heating, Ventilation & A/C unit to conserve energy

During the holiday season, there are more than 2 people who spend time away from beach house visiting with their family members.

Personally, I have regularly left town because I care about to spend the holidays in an area with colder weather.

I live in the south, & the weather here is regularly mild during the holidays, therefore, I care about going up north where the hot & cold temperatures know more care about Winter. When I leave town, one thing that I regularly have to decide is what to do about my Heating, Ventilation & A/C system. When you leave town do you turn off your Heating, Ventilation & A/C system or do you set the temperature accordingly? I don’t have a programmable control unit, so this is an issue that I have struggled with in the past. In the Winter time weeks, when I leave for a month or more, I have tried both methods. I have turned off the Heating, Ventilation & A/C unit, & I have set the temperature 5 degrees lower than normal, despite the fact that I didn’t know which proposal conserved the most energy. Also, does it matter how long I am away from home? A programmable control unit would solve this issue as I could entirely set it accordingly & not worry about it. But since I don’t own one, I must make those decisions each time I decide to leave town. I finally did some research & found that if I leave for a month or more, it is ideal to turn off the Heating, Ventilation & A/C unit to conserve energy & save money. Perhaps it is time I invest in a programmable control unit, so that I could put this issue behind myself and others & focus more on the holiday season.
