Trying not to start up the oil furnace
Every year, I wait as long as possible before starting up the oil furnace.
I dread that moment when I’m forced to raise the temperature control setting plus the heating system kicks on.
I suppose that I’ll be running the oil furnace plus paying excessive yearly bills for the next multiple weeks. I’ve made every effort to reduce energy waste plus expenses. Every window in the condo has been replaced plus carefully caulked around. All of the exterior doors are brand new, Energy Star rated plus have been weatherstripped. I’ve added insulation, ceiling fans plus a smart temperature control. I am actually conscientious about replacing the air filter every week. I still cringe every time I open the gas bill; Because of this, I’m reluctant to turn to the oil furnace earlier than necessary. In our local area, the afternoons already start feeling chilly by the end of October. In September, our adolescents begin complaining about how frigid the condo feels. I tell them to dress warmer. They can put on sweatshirts plus warm socks. They can wrap in blankets when they watch television. I hope to hold off until at least mid October however it’s not constantly possible. Sometimes the temperature drops below frigid plus we get snow. When it starts snowing, there’s no option however to use the oil furnace. There’s the problem over water pipes frigid.
