Getting a new enclosure for the AC condenser unit after last week’s hurricane

When I left the cold northern climate for the South, I really didn’t consider my proximity to the coast plus the actual danger of dire weather.

Although we had a tornado season in the northern midwest, there were only a few moments where I had to go into my basement because a tornado was within range of the property.

On the other hand, my new property is regularly under the threat of super charged hurricanes. As climate change actually grows worse the storms get entirely bigger plus more powerful. This basically means there’s a wonderful chance that you’ll be affected by at least one storm every single year. This past month we had a category 3 storm move through our area while causing a great deal of damage everywhere in its path. All of us were very fortunate that our neighborhood did not get a direct hit from the hurricane’s eye wall, however we still had plenty of trees knocked down plus roofing shingles missing from peoples’ properties. One of our pine trees was knocked down plus almost hit the side of our house. Instead of going into the roof, it came down onto the Heating plus Air Conditioning condenser. This metal enclosure contains the a/c’s compressor plus the fan that is utilized to cool it. It’s not really cheap at all rebuilding a condenser for a/c equipment, however our insurance covered the costs. It’s quite a bit cheaper than fixing a huge gash in the side of the house. I still feel truly lucky that the tree didn’t fall a few inches to the left, otherwise we would have a very big hole in the garage. The Heating plus Air Conditioning equipment worker had the condenser repaired plus running again after roughly three hours of work.
