I had a battery operated thermostat and I changed the batteries every year

After that incident, I changed the batteries in the thermostat once per year to guarantee that my HVAC unit functioned properly and to also avoid spending money on unnecessary service calls

Did you know that it is recommended to change the batteries in the smoke alarm every year? I must admit that I don’t change those batteries frequently, instead I change them when the alarms start to chirp indicating that the batteries are low. That is with any device or even my car, I change the batteries when I know they are low or after they have died. There was one incident where the batteries on my thermostat died and at first, I thought I was having a serious issue with my central air unit. I was renting a condo and didn’t know that the thermostat used batteries. It was an older HVAC unit, and the thermostat was digital, but I could tell it was dated as well. At first, I noticed that the air had become irregular, but when I turned off the thermostat and turned it back on, the A/C returned to normal. This happened for a couple of days, and that is when I thought there was a major issue with the HVAC unit. I almost called my landlord to let him know that I needed an HVAC technician, but after some investigation, I noticed that the numbers on the digital screen of the thermostat were fading. It was at that moment that I realized that my thermostat used batteries. I figured out how to remove the thermostat from the wall, and I opened the back panel and replaced the batteries. After that incident, I changed the batteries in the thermostat once per year to guarantee that my HVAC unit functioned properly and to also avoid spending money on unnecessary service calls. Perhaps I should do the same and change the batteries on my smoke detector yearly as they recommended us to do.
