Rude awakening at our hotel
When you save for months to go on vacation you expect everything to be perfect.
Especially when you are going to the “Happiest Place on Earth”.
The kids were really excited to go and we were looking forward to taking a break from the winter cold. We planned our trip for the middle of February when our own weather would be sub zero and snowy. We felt that this was the best time to go and the kids had a two week break from school anyway. Everything was great when we arrived and just like we dreamed it would be. After three days of endless walking and standing in line we were pretty worn out. We came back to the hotel that day and just wanted to get a good night’s sleep. When we were awoken at two in the morning and told to evacuate the hotel all of that changed. By the time we were all outside the emergency personnel had arrived along with the gas company. We were told by the hotel staff that the HVAC system’s alarm had gone off indicated that there was carbon monoxide in the building. They apologized for the rude awakening but said that it was for our own safety and they would have the situation resolved as soon as possible. The night air was a bit chilly and we stood there in our pajamas for over an hour. The kids were upset but in the back of my mind I was relieved that the hotel had a system with safety checks installed. We could have been in a place with an older HVAC system that did not have this feature. Carbon monoxide is nothing to take lightly as it is a silent killer. If your HVAC system in your home does not have this monitoring you should definitely purchase a detector for your home to be safe too.
