Installing heat has been a long process

When we built our detached garage about a year ago we never thought it would take so long to install the heat.

The building was completed last September and our initial plan was to have heat and electricity installed before the winter.

In order to save money my husband decided that he would do most of the installation himself including digging the long trench that was needed to install the utilities. This was a back-breaking cask and it took him almost 2 weeks to complete it. The town requires that all utilities be buried at least 3 ft below the ground due to the frost line and the trench is about 200 ft long. Once complete the rest of the process went really quickly and now it is up to me to pick what type of heating unit I want installed. We don’t need anything as powerful as what you would have in the house and there are many options for both wall hanging and free-standing heaters that are fueled by natural gas. Some of these units are more decorative than others and although I like the look of them I have to remember that we are installing it in a garage not in my living room. A local HVAC dealer has a showroom with many options available that can be easily installed by a homeowner so long as they follow the directions properly. My husband is pretty handy so I’m not really concerned as far as that goes and I think I have narrowed down my choices to a ventless gas heater that hangs on the wall so that it doesn’t take up any of the floor space. We have fully insulated the building so it should be powerful enough to maintain a temperature of around 55 degrees throughout the cold winter months and this will allow us to store things out there that we normally couldn’t.
