Protecting your HVAC system against pet dander

Pets bring a lot of joy and happiness into our lives.

However, they can be quite a hassle for a variety of reasons.

One thing you need to keep in mind as a pet owner, specifically if you own one or more animals that have a tendency to shed excessively, is the significant impact it will have on your heating and air conditioning system. Pet dander is an allergen that can negatively impact indoor air quality. Pet dander becomes airborne and circulates throughout the home. Your HVAC system will pull in this pet dander, and after a while, it will start to accumulate inside your HVAC systems components. Your filter, your air ducts, and other parts will start to get clogged with pet dander. This can cause problems with air flow and put a damper on energy efficiency. HVAC maintenance calls should be more frequent when you have a lot of shedding pets. Also, air filters definitely need to be replaced more often than normal, perhaps even once a month. Not to mention the fact that respiratory problems and allergies will be exacerbated by pet dander. Advanced HEPA air filters and air purification systems will help improve indoor air quality when dealing with a lot of pets. You might consider cleaning out your air ducts on a regular basis when you have a lot of pets. Once or twice a year should suffice. Finally, it would behoove you to properly groom and bathe your pets and vacuum and clean your home, particularly in the areas that your pets frequent the most.
