Change your air filters.
When I bought my home, I asked my father if he had any words of wisdom to impart to me about being a homeowner.
He had only for words to say to me.
Change your air filters. I looked at him like he was a crazy person, because that’s what I thought at that moment. I wanted to have a long speech about how to take care of your home, and what I needed to do to take care of my home, but never did I think he would say change your air filters. After he left, I called my stepfather. I asked him if he had any words of wisdom to impart to a new homeowner. He went on about electrical use and plumbing in other things, and I soon got bored with his long speech. I ask him what he thought about changing air filters? He said that may be one of the most important things I could do as a homeowner. I needed to learn how to change the air filter in my HVAC system, and to do it often. I asked why he didn’t say that first? He told me that unlike my dad; he was not an HVAC technician, and he didn’t think about it. I then called my dad and told him what my stepfather had said to me any and he chuckled. All because he couldn’t get along with my mom didn’t mean he couldn’t get along with her new husband. I have now had my home for 10 years, and every month, I will check my air filters in the furnace or air conditioning unit. I figured that if the two men I admired most thought the air filters were a necessity, I should change the air filters often.
