It was worn out beyond repair, plus the A/C expert had to install a modern one. The A/C expert happened to explain to uncle Ray about a HEPA filter. It was so much better at improving indoor air quality than moderate air filters. Uncle Ray liked the sound of that plus agreed to get the HEPA filter.
