Why I always travel with a space heater when I can
I have a newborn baby and he is the light of my life.
I couldn’t get pregnant for about four years and I had just about given up.
A few weeks after I accepted defeat, I found out that I was pregnant with my first child. I did everything to protect him during pregnancy, and now that he is Earth-side, I still do everything I can to protect my little precious miracle. For example, because he was born prematurely, he is very sensitive to certain temperatures. He has a condition that can worsen if his body temperature gets too cold for too long. In true mom fashion, I decided to carry a small portable space heater with me wherever we go so that if an emergency strikes, I am prepared to warm him up. This really came in handy when we went on our first trip to a hotel with him and the heater in our room broke. It was the middle of winter and we were traveling down South to see our parents for the holidays when we dealt with the heater dilemma. We were fast asleep in the hotel room when I woke up to the sound of him crying, and I immediately felt cold. I checked the heater and it was completely turned off, so I called the front desk to have someone come and fix it. I pulled out the space heater in the meantime to warm up my baby, and I held him in a blanket to help gently rock him back to sleep. It was honestly pretty traumatic for all of us, but I was so glad to have the heater fixed. Having the space heater handy is really helpful for us, but I understand that it’s not for everyone.
