I think we’re going to get a wall mounted HVAC unit for the great room
I think that we’re going to have to get some sort of a wall mounted HVAC unit for the great room at our house.
The great room is my absolute favorite room in the entire house, but the indoor air quality in there is simply terrible.
The room has a twenty foot ceiling and so it’s really hard to keep the heat and the air conditioning in there. In the summer, the room is so hot and stuffy with the sun coming in through the windows that I can barely stand to sit in there with a book in my favorite chair. I hate to waste the room, though, since it’s so beautiful and has such comfortable furniture. There’s also a wood burning fireplace, which I love to sit by in the evenings after work. Well, now that it’s winter, it’s a different sort of problem in the great room. Now, no matter how long we have the furnace going, the great room is still freezing cold. Even if I’m sitting right next to the fireplace, the temperature in the great room is usually still freezing cold in the evenings during the winter. I talked to the guy down at our local HVAC company and he said that there’s not much that you can do in a situation like ours except possibly put in a ductless mini split A/C unit for that particular room. That’s because we would not want to ruin the aesthetic of the great room by trying to put in additional ductwork into the ceiling, walls, or floors.
