Duct cleaning to get rid of stinks

Last fall, when the weather changed, I raised the control component setting and started up the gas furnace.

  • The whole condo filled with the stink of dead rodent! Even though it was only 45 degrees outside, I opened all the windows.

I preferred bundling up in jackets and my Winter time coat to inhaling that stink, then unfortunately, as soon as I ran the furnace again, the stink came back. I lit scented candles, bought room destinkizers, cleaned with disinfectant and hoped it would work itself out, after many afternoons, I couldn’t stand it anymore… My whole family was complaining always. It was undoubtedly horrible and unbearable. I contacted a professional Heating and A/C contractor and tied up service for the furnace. The professional took the component apart and found a minimal buildup of dust inside, however she told myself and others that the rodent was most likely inside the ducts. She wanted to know when was the last time we’d had the HVAC ducts professionally clean. I’d never had them diagnosed. The HVAC duct is concealed inside the walls, ceilings and crawlspace, so I never gave it a thought. She said that dust and debris accumulates inside the network of pipe and not only restricts airflow but absorbs stinks. The stinks, along with all sorts of contaminants, then get spread throughout the house! Plus, concerns with the HVAC duct places added strain on the furnace and leads to malfunction and higher running costs. The professional gave a duct cleaning service. She brought in what looked a lot appreciate a sizable vacuum cleaner. The device had a long hose and a wand with a brush affixment on the end. This works to dislodge contaminants and suck them up. The duct cleaning eliminated the stink of dead rodent and improved the performance of the furnace.
