I shouldn’t have skipped the HVAC inspection

I have been told by the news media that the economy is doing well, but that is not my experience as of late.

My pay has not gone up in a very long time, and in fact instead of getting a raise the last 2 years I have been told that I’m lucky to have a job at all. At the same time, inflation has never been worse in my lifetime. The price of everything keeps going up, but my pay stays the same. When I had to start cutting things out of my budget, the annual HVAC inspection was one of the first things to go. That proved to be a mistake, because when something went sideways, I realized just how much I rely on air conditioning. The summer heat in this part of the country is cruel and unusual, and for about five or six months per year I have to keep my air conditioning running at all times. That is not an exaggeration, at three in the morning the A/C will still click on, because it is still that hot outside! Since the HVAC system had been running great since last year, I decided to pass on the annual inspection. That saved me $150, but wound up costing me several hundred dollars when my air conditioner needed emergency repairs. I am kicking myself for skipping that HVAC inspection, but I guess there is nothing I can do about it now. Next year I will be sure to get my A/C system checked before the summer hits.
