I Was Naive About HVAC Servicing

I was really naive when I bought my first home.

  • I considered the budget for my house, a budget for the home owners association, and I even thought about how I was going to take the trash off to the dump.

However, I wish I would’ve considered how to take care of a lawn or how to take care of an HVAC system. I had no idea how fast grass grew during the summertime or after a rainstorm. I also didn’t know that I was supposed to hire an HVAC technician to come service my HVAC system twice per year or that I was supposed to change out my air filter. It wasn’t until I started getting flyers in the mail for the local HVAC company that I realized the importance of my HVAC system. The HVAC company was trying to gain my business, so they were constantly sending me information about their services. I was tossing the flyers into the trash can for months before I decided to call. When my furnace started turning off randomly throughout the day, I didn’t know how to fix it. I called the HVAC company and hired an HVAC professional to come repair my furnace. I was expecting there to be a lot of damage and a hefty bill, but the HVAC technician told me that my air filter was too congested. It hadn’t been replaced in what looked like a long time, so my furnace was short cycling. Thankfully, he replaced the air filter and serviced the rest of my furnace and found no other issues. Before he left, he told me that I’d need to replace that air filter in two to three months. I definitely won’t forget this time.
